Paper & It's consequences

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

-How we went from using to exploiting nature's gifts-

From writing in your school notebooks to reading your favorite novel, almost all aspects of our daily life include the utilization of paper. Paper, believed to be made in 105 A.D, was at that time used for communication, spreading literature, etc. But you might not know that ancient paper was also used for windows, hats and even armour! But in today's world, paper is mostly used for packaging-with dire repercussions. There has been a massive decrease of the number of trees on the planet. The Amazon rainforest in Brazil has suffered over 1.3 million trees a year. We are cutting down the very trees which produce oxygen and keep Global warming under control and reduce soil erosion. But at this rate of deforestation, the Earth's condition is rapidly worsening.

“Look after the land and the land will look after you, destroy the land and it will destroy you.”

So that is why the Sustainable Development Goals were established. 17 goals to be achieved. Every problem that was deemed as unsolvable is getting solved now. We need a real change. And that will be possible only if we all contribute. So next time you throw paper, think twice.
